Giving Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving!

If you live in the U.S., your parish church likely has a Mass this morning on this “American feast day” to thank the Almighty for His continued blessings upon us and our country. May you enjoy this time to rest and enjoy a feast with your families.

For Catholics everywhere, this whole week is really a week of thanksgiving, since it is the final week of the Church Year. We bring our grateful hearts to God as we number the blessings and graces we have received this year. I mean this literally: today while the family is gathered together, make a list of some of the graces that you have received since Advent 2012. Are there new babies, have there been Weddings, First Communions or Confirmations, the first perceptions of a call to the religious life? Make a list of these things for Saturday, the Catholic “New Years’ Eve.”

May the Good Lord continue to bless us as we strive to do His Will. Once again, I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
